Ocean Force

Full moon, high tide and storm surge bring the ocean to full force.

Swells crashing over the South Jetty like the huge rocks were but pebbles.

Flooding far up onto the beach and pulling out the driftwood field – heavy 40-foot tree trunks caught up by the curling wave claws and set afloat back out to sea.

No beach to walk on today – I sit at safe distance and let the wind, ocean spray, the crashing sound and the brilliant sun invigorate all my senses, my cells.

Yes, what it is to be alive!

Oh Earth, Mother Gaia, travelers from all dimensions come to feel you through me!

Ocean Force I thank you!

Essential Nisargadatta III: On the Individual

Nisargadatta, sitting in the loft he built above his small shop on Bombay (now Mumbai), India, answered questions of the many visitors who came from around the world to sit with him. He often spoke of the dynamic of manifest consciousness and the individual, as we commonly think of ourselves. This short excerpt is one of those conversations.

Visitor: Does the consciousness remain forever?

Nisargadatta: No, the consciousness is there only so long as the body is there.

V: Even when one understands, will there be bodies coming into existence?

N: Yes. The five elements, three gunas, prakriti and purusha, together are the means of demonstrating the “I Amness”.

(Terms are in footnotes. Link to Sanskrit terms: http://www.sanskrit.org/www/Sanskrit/sanskritterms.htm)

In the original state there is no sense of consciousness, no awareness of being, but as soon as the “I Amness” comes the entire manifestation is seen at once, this is the expression of consciousness. In the Absolute the “I Amness” is whole but the expression is in many. I manifest Myself in many.

Human beings are one type of form and each type of form will act according to its nature according to the combination of the three gunas. How can an individual come in?

The only way to understand this mystery is to realize your identity with the universal consciousness, which is expressed in total space. So long as you identify yourself with the human form it is impossible for the mystery to be solved.

V: What is the realization?

N: Before the idea “I Am” sprouted, you are, but you don’t know you are. Subsequent to that there have been many happenings with which you have started decorating yourself. You try to derive the meaning of yourself out of the subsequent words, happenings, and the meaning of words . . . that is not you . . . give it up. Your are prior to the idea “I Am.” Camp yourself there, prior to the words “I Am.”

My comment:

Once again Nisargadatta points to a place, a space in awareness that is before the very first thought of “I Am”. In the process of following the stream of thoughts back “upstream” to the root thought “I Am”, a great simplicity instills itself into my consciousness. That space is like a “jumping-off” point on a huge boulder in the middle of a stream from which the very subtle space prior to the idea “I Am” is sensed as a fine inkling.

*guna = quality, positive attributes or virtues. In the context of Bhagavadgita and Sankhya philosophy there are three gunas of matter. Sometimes guna is translated as phase or mode. Therefore the three gunas or phases of matter are: sattvagunarajo-guna and tamoguna.

sattva–the first of the three gunas of matter. Sometimes translated as goodness, the phase of sattva is characterized by harmony, lightness, peace, cleanliness, knowledge, etc.

rajas–the second of the three gunas of matter. Sometimes translated as passion, the phase of rajas is characterized by action, passion, the desire to do something, creation, etc.

tamas–the third of the three gunas of matter. Sometimes translated as darkness or inertia, the phase of tamas is characterized by darkness, ignorance, slowness, destruction, heaviness, disease, possessiveness, sense of being the ‘doer’ etc.

*prakrti = material nature. In sankhya philosophy prakrti is comprised of eight elements: earth, water, fire, air, space, mind, intellect and ego. It is characterized by the three gunassattvarajas and tamas. Prakrti is female. Purusa is male.

*purusa = man, male. In sankhya philosophy purusa denotes the Supreme Male Principle in the universe. Its counterpart is prakrti.

Blogging Creates the Global Brain

Blogging and Noosphere

These blogs are about the meeting of like-minded spirits. These websites seem to be a vehicle for the creation of what Teilhard de Chardin called the Noosphere – the thinking layer of our planet. Peter Russell was speaking of the same phenomenon when he wrote about the Global Brain (and also the video with the same name).

I observe clearly a non-linear connectivity at work that brings those of like frequency together. It looks like magic, but is actually an aspect of the intrinsic order of evolution unfolding, and we are a conscious part of it.

Glad to know each one of you, and thank you for opening up to this exhilarating experience of Consciousness awakening to Itself – we are the Universe in Person!

Cosmic Cycles Part Two

Dear Friends,

I printed out the Word doc with my post “Cosmic Cycles” and was surprised that there is another page with the second part! (I hadn’t looked at the document since I had written it down in 2010.)

(If you didn’t read Part One – here is the link:

https://newearthpulse.wordpress.com/2012/09/25/cosmic-cycles/ )

So here is Part Two:

In this process you are owning and embracing all the fragments: this is unconditional love, and universal goodwill, caring for, compassion, connecting with the one Heart. As the veil lifts and you begin to carry and support this process from your heart, you experience a reintegration of all three basic facets of your nature, which are:

1)    Absolute Being: you are beginning to realize in your core that you cannot be born or die, that Beingness is before and beyond all forms that arise and subside. So the fear of death and loss is waning;

2)    Absolute Consciousness: you realize that every form is contained in consciousness, as every wave is part of the ocean. Your identification with single forms is waning and your ability to see consciousness itself as your true identity is growing;

3)    Absolute Bliss: the flavor of all experience is now this facet showing itself in all experiences, beyond the attributes of pleasant or unpleasant or any other attributes. Those and all other attributes are being over-shadowed, as the sun of Bliss that you are is less and less obscured by the clouds of the mind. You experience this as a very subtle warmth and lightness, an aliveness in all experience, a joy that has no ‘reason’, an increasingly continual letting go of anything that starts to cloud the experience or make it feel heavy. There is a more and more steady remembrance of the fact that joy is what you are, it is your basic nature, way before your nature as a human, as a light being – or anything else you may define yourself as.

To say: “I am” is to say; “I = Being, Consciousness, Bliss”

Let this frequency mature in you, in your life, in all of your doings. That is your homework for now.

A Message from Consciousness
~
Oh highest most pure consciousness, my dearest friend, lover, most true life companion! Show me whatever information so as to reveal your secrets and to unveil to me the truth of this existence and also that from which this existence comes, that I may rest in my true nature: svarupa!
~
I am awake beyond the three states. Light takes its journey from that first atom of pure existence without attributes. Feel that first state of pure beingness! In it is supreme bliss, peace, love. Recline into that state as into a warm bath in a wonderful natural hot springs. Feel that one living water with these three aspects of bliss, peace and love. Feel the one atom of pure existence. You are that.
~
See the mirror. It is a crystal mirror with myriad facets. The one atom of pure existence is a golden orb. You hear the intense humming of that one atom, like an atomic power station. It is a vibration that you feel, hear, see and sense in your core. It explodes into the crystal mirror and out into space as myriad rays. These rays are reflected and refracted again and again by the crystal mirror which is everywhere as the inner structure of existence, of the one atom of pure existence. In other words, wherever you go and whatever you perceive is the mirror, producing reflections, refractions and distortions of the one effulgence.
~
You have been fascinated by the permutations of form as light, color, sound, touch, smell and “inner” mind images like a small child is enthralled by a bauble hanging over its crib. Now you see the worlds and universes for what they are: a wondrous and divine playground for conscious existence to experience itself. You are now seeing in your deepest core that what you see is yourself. You alone are.
~
You are returning to consciously be the crystal mirror and are now on the verge of seeing that the impulse to explode out into space to experience your power is now subsiding. You are feeling the immense power to hold this energy of the one golden atom at your core and just glow, without projecting.  Just as you feel the vital life energy expand and expand as you inhale, and then, when the expansion cycle is complete, after a brief pause, during which you reside in the void in fullness, you let go of the impulse and allow the release – implosion happens, and all energy returns from fullness to emptiness. Then, when this opposite cycle is complete, you rest in the void again, in emptiness.
~
Now you want to rest in that space longer and longer, and are waking up to the fact that you are that space, that emptiness, which is intensely humming with potentiality. You are letting go of the urge to actualize that potentiality, as you have tasted that process to its fullness and completion. You see the fragmentation of consciousness that has resulted. You now yearn to reverse the fragmentation process and to allow all splinters of light of the one atom to subside back into itself. This is resting in your own form: svarupa – in which nothing is missing.
~

In this process you are owning and embracing all the fragments: this is unconditional love, and universal goodwill, caring for, compassion, connecting with the one Heart. As the veil lifts and you begin to carry and support this process from your heart, you experience a reintegration of all three basic facets of your nature, which are:

Those and all other attributes are being over-shadowed, as the sun of Bliss that you are is less and less obscured by the clouds of the mind. You experience this as a very subtle warmth and lightness, an aliveness in all experience, a joy that has no ‘reason’, an increasingly continual letting go of anything that starts to cloud the experience or make it feel heavy. There is a more and more steady remembrance of the fact that joy is what you are, it is your basic nature, way before your nature as a human, as a light being – or anything else you may define yourself as.

The Whole of Love, Nobody, The Infinite and other Gems: Emily Dickinson

We learned the whole of love,
The alphabet, the words,
A chapter, then the mighty book–
Then revelation closed.

But in each other’s eyes
An ignorance beheld
Diviner than the childhood’s,
And each to each a child.

Attempted to expound
What neither understood.
Alas, that wisdom is so large
And truth so manifold!

**********************

The Infinite a sudden guest
Has been assumed to be,
But how can that stupendous come
Which never went away?

**********************

I’m nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there’s a pair of us — don’t tell!
They’d banish us, you know.

How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

**********************

The only news I know
Is bulletins all day
From Immortality.

The only shows I see,
Tomorrow and Today,
Perchance Eternity.

The only One I meet
Is God, -the only street,
Existence; this traversed

If other news there be,
Or admirabler show —
I’ll tell it you.

**********************

The life we have is very great;
The life that we shall see
Surpasses it we know because
It is Infinity.

But when all space has been beheld
And all dominion shown,
The smallest human heart’s extent
Reduces it to none.

The Quality of Universal Consciousness

(reblogged from my “Simplicity” blog: http://simpleopenspace.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-quality-of-universal-consciousness.html )

I must compare and discriminate and make distinctions to experience pain and pleasure. They are necessarily framed in a context. For the universal consciousness there is no pain or pleasure as it is both sides of every attribute that makes up a conscious experience. The sense of being an individual is the basis for the experience of comparison and of distinction. How can I say “I am cold” if all experiences are held in the neutral space of ‘what is’? More precisely expressed would be: something in the field of experience of universal consciousness is noticed as being at a lower temperature than is optimal for that one unit within the field. There is an altogether ‘other’ quality of universal consciousness “like the open sky” and “like the full moon” that includes all and refrains from excluding anything within the realm of phenomena. The force that illumines all and makes anything visible or experience-able, let’s call it the one Sun, or Inner Effulgence, manifests as all forms – however subtle or gross. As this Effulgence ‘shines’ – it passes through itself, yes it is shining through itself onto itself as forms appear, stay awhile and then disappear. The consistency of itself, once it is manifest is, or course, no longer transparent but tends to refract and reflect itself like in a hall of prisms, taking on seemingly individual shapes. In Reality, however, it is all still the One principle, manifesting out of “nothing” or out of the emptiness. This ‘other’ quality of universal consciousness is the key to the realization of Reality and frees me from the illusions and false identifications that create turbulence in my life, and indeed, in the world.9/22/2012

The Rose Gardener

Winter Solstice 2009

I had neglected my garden for many years, not even knowing that I was the gardener.

The weeds of aversion had all but enveloped the roses. I was given a wonderful tool by my first teacher: “Accept all changes”, he said. It took a while to learn how to use that tool and even now, thirty years later, it still needs to be kept sharp. It does the job.

The rose bushes themselves, once freed from the weeds, were in terrible shape. A tangle of desires and illusions were the result of “Wildwuchs” as the Germans say: wild growth. After fruitless attempts at pruning out the useless canes and branches, my teacher gave me a second powerful tool: “Silence”. Again, through trial and error, I stumbled upon the right balance of affection and detachment that he called “Equidistance”. This gradually brought Silence into focus as the absolute substratum of all that appears with name and form.

Thus I was able to cut the rose bushes back radically for the winter, leaving only the four or five of the healthiest canes on the bush. Seeking Truth was one, self-compassion and forgiveness, a sense of eternity, feeling Love coming from the source within and Knowing that all are One were others. Now came the time for work within. Deep in the Earth energy from the rose is absorbed – to be sent back into the rose with new intelligence for new growth.

Spending time in Ramana Maharshi’s ashram at MountArunachala deepened the Silence. Meeting with his granddaughter Gangaji in Ashland, Oregon finally triggered the spark from deep within: “What effort do you need to just be here now?” she asked. The star lit up: “Nothing!”

Hallelujah! The energy started rising from deep within, into the stalks, sending out fresh new shoots. Taoism was one of these. Krishnamurti, Zen Buddhism, Ramtha, Rumi, and Nisargadatta also took off into wonderful journeys of exploration. Eckhart Tolle appears as a fresh voice from the Void. What beauty man discovers in his quest for freedom!

Over the years I kept pruning back wild growth: whenever I felt the tangle of ideas and concepts taking over again, I sharpened Silence to keep the essential clear and strong. Now the canes are sturdy, able to stand up to the gusting winds of human life.

First blossoms appeared: a group of earnest souls began meeting regularly to be in the company of Eckhart Tolle and to support each other in their growth. Each one had a unique fragrance and color and swayed in the winds, learning to draw inspiration from the bush’s roots.

A new bush opened its blossoms in January of the next year: “Celebrate” This group met weekly to share and support each other in the spirit of the Hopi Prophecy:

“Here is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift, that there are those who will be afraid, who will try to hold on to the shore, they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly. Know that the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, and keep our heads above water. And I say see who is there with you and celebrate. At this time in history we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves, for the moment we do, our spiritual growth and journey come to a halt. The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves. Banish the word struggle from your attitude and vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. For we ARE the ones we have been waiting for.”

Hiranyagarbha, the Cosmic Womb, the Golden Egg asks the human form to help by keeping calm, quiet and free from desire and fear – then the birthing happens from moment to moment and the inner ear hears the Rose Gardener whispering.
